Big Science Sinking in a Swamp of Wokeness

Honest scientists are worth their weight in gold,
but the public face of Big Science is infected by woke Leftism

 

Note: If you are a scientist honestly working on cancer cures, finding solutions to technological problems by imitating nature, or rigorously collecting data about organisms or near-earth asteroids, more power to you. It’s tragic that the Big Science Cartel (the lobbyists, journal editors and academic deans) have corrupted the good name of science. Remember when it stood for following the evidence where it leads about the natural world? That seems so long ago.

Now, Big Science and Big Media are propaganda arms for the Far Left. There is no politically-tainted subject in the news on which B.S. and B.M. offer a conservative voice in a favorable way. They have become mouthpieces for the Democrat Party and for global leftists and radicals. We have provided evidence for this many times.

A growing trend is for science news amalgamators like Phys.org, Medical Xpress and Science Daily to republish politically-leftist articles from universities, whether they have anything to do with science or not. They never give a conservative response in a favorable light. Any mention of conservatives is only to rebut them. They always quote leftist professors and radicals who hate Trump, love abortion, and favor global governance. They always “spin” conservative views in the worst way possible.

Summary

This list could be extended further back in time for years. For your astonishment, here is a strange headline from the University of Birmingham on August 1 that was echoed dutifully by Phys.org: “‘Spirit mediums’ could help unlock tourism secrets, according to study.” My, what would William Whewell have thought about that?

Oh, the things that conservative scholars could say about this list of political issues! But they have no platform on Big Science or Big Media, because those cartels routinely censor them. Have you ever heard any “science news” site quote the likes of Thomas Sowell, Victor Davis Hanson, Carol Swain, or any of the scholars at Hillsdale College or the Heritage Foundation? There are hundreds of conservative spokespersons, educators, scientists and philosophers with impeccable credentials who possess a great deal of knowledge and experience about issues of race, sex, values, democracy and culture. But the mainstream journals and science websites never let them speak. They only give the microphone to the radical leftists.

It’s not that conservatives would discount some of the problems addressed in the articles in the above list. But they would surely differ on the causes and the solutions! For instance, regarding affirmative action, the Supreme Court overturned the long-standing policy because it was racist. Under the guise of helping “people of color,” it was engaging in reverse discrimination. It was rejecting worthy applicants to universities, who had studied hard and met all the qualifications, because they had the wrong skin color. How racist is that? It was also demeaning to black applicants with the “soft bigotry of low expectations.” Democrats were essentially judging them to be too stupid to get into the university without their help (ask Ben Carson about that).

The drumbeat in B.S. and B.M. is constant: Hate Trump. Promote abortion. Destroy traditional values. Forget the law; let anyone cross any border any time. Long live DEI and ESG and CRT! Let anyone be any gender they want. Darwin was the greatest man who ever lived. What, Jesus? Only the “religious right” cares about him. The Constitution needs to “evolve” with today’s values. Anything disagreeing with the consensus is spreading misinformation. Down with capitalism. Up with communism. Republican wars are evil, but Democrat wars are morally righteous. The world is doomed! Engage in climate activism. Porn, drugs and sexual deviancy are fine. Teach it to kids with “drag queen story hours” (but don’t tell their parents!). Take away all guns. Rioters have every right to throw bricks at police and burn down businesses, because they were “oppressed.” Pay their bail, let them out of jail, and make everyone else pay reparations to them. But Trump should be locked up for the crime of telling a crowd to “peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.” Two-tiered justice system? What’s the problem? Conservatives don’t deserve a voice. Shout down conservative speakers. Send FBI SWAT teams to arrest pro-lifers. Make plumbers pay for the school loan debts of grads in “gender studies” and “queer theory.” Impeach Trump twice and indict him three times, but let Biden’s son sell out the USA to its national enemies for millions of dollars for access to the Biden Influence Brand. Enforce vaccine mandates. Cancel anyone who disagrees.

How does B.S. and B.M. make any of these radical positions look scientific? Often, they say, somebody did “a study.”

“A study.”

Some researchers are not studying very hard.

One can tell these leftists believe truth evolves, because a few decades ago, no scientist would have believed that the scientific community would ever support gender mutilation, gender fluidity, and cancel culture. The radical Left in the 1960s was all about “Free Speech.” Not now! Leftists are the spearheads of Cancel Culture. And the scientists who were scaring the world about Nuclear Winter in the 1970s are strangely quiet about the threats of nuclear weapons being used in the Russia-Ukraine war that the USA is funding with over a hundred billion dollars. The Left has evolved, and Big Science, tied to them at the hip, is evolving, too—down the slippery slope into the dystopian swamp of the Brave New World.

We feel great sadness for the many, many honest scientists who have to try to work under these circumstances. They know that speaking up is a CLM (career limiting move). If you are one of them, try to keep your head but use wisdom when to speak up and when to shut up. Most of all, don’t let the slippery slope drop you into the bottomless swamp.
