SETI Craziness Continues

They have no evidence but need to look busy, so SETI enthusiasts come up with crazier stories to keep public hopes up.

Extraterrestrial life could be more common than previously thought, new study says (Fox News Science). How can anyone say that space aliens can be more common than thought, when not one has ever been found? The crazy reason here is that binary stars may have more planets with an earthlike tilt (which seems highly doubtful). As evolutionists, they think “if you build it, they will come”— give aliens a place to live, and they will pop into existence. Why? Because magic powers exist in chemical evolution and natural selection. Why, intelligent life is inevitable! One advocate admits with chagrin, “this is quite optimistic.”

NIST’s Light-Sensing Camera May Help Detect Extraterrestrial Life, Dark Matter (NIST). Double or nothing! This article discusses two no-shows in alien searches: aliens and dark matter. Oh, but the new instrument “might” find them in the future:

With more than 1,000 sensors, or pixels, NIST’s camera may be useful in future space-based telescopes searching for chemical signs of life on other planets, and in new instruments designed to search for the elusive “dark matter” believed to constitute most of the “stuff” in the universe.

‘Are we alone?’ Study refines which exoplanets are potentially habitable (NASA Astrobiology Institute). It’s predictable that the NASA bio-astrology folks are going to be optimistic and imagine lots of habitable worlds for their space buddies. Sure enough, they predict two planets per habitable zone. That multiplies out to gazillions of homes for their cosmic friends to live in.

How Long Will It Take to Find Proof of Alien Life? ( In order to keep public hope alive, SETI believers got together and speculated about how soon space aliens will be found. Some said 10 years; others 20, 35, or within their lifetime. No evidence was offered for any of their imaginative hopes. How can they be called “educated” guesses?

But these are all guesses, albeit educated ones, and that showed in how some confronted the question. “I certainly would like to think within my lifetime,” Bill Diamond, president and CEO of the SETI Institute, said. “Hopefully that’s more years than I think, but I absolutely think within my lifetime. Probably in the month of March, and hopefully the discovery comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.

Could the Moon Act As a Fishing Net for Extraterrestrial Life? (Live Science). This dreamer is not even looking for life, but for the “building blocks” of life that might arrive on space debris from other stars and be protected on the moon. “The idea is to consider the moon’s surface as a fishing net for interstellar objects collected over time and potentially deliver building blocks of life from the habitable environments around other stars.” And if the building blocks are different from earth life, they might be pieces of space aliens; perhaps their bellybutton lint.

Not All the Hype Is Hopeful

Among the news articles about SETI recently, some are depressing:

Finding extraterrestrial life ‘probably going to take a long time,’ astronomer says (Fox News Science). One person, Sara Seager, has the opinion that it’s going to take a long time. Talk about raining on a parade.

Asteroid Impacts Might Wipe Out Alien Life Around Dwarf Stars ( Many dwarf stars can’t hold onto their atmospheres. A big wallop might blast away alien’s air, leaving them choking on the surface.

Scientists find a spot where no life can survive. That’s bad news for alien hunters (Fox News Science). There’s a volcanic area in Ethiopia where nothing seems to live. We can’t assume aliens can live anywhere.

Before We Find Aliens, Humans Need to Figure Ourselves Out ( That’s the only sensible question in the list. But it’s answered in a non-sensible way. The author worries about how we might contaminate the aliens or enslave them.

If you want to figure yourself out, read the Manufacturer’s Manual.
