Big Science Out of Touch with Americans
Instead of rejoicing at the hope
for prosperity in America, Nature
quivers after Kamala Harris loses
By every measure, America has endured some of the worst four years in recent memory: sky-high inflation, an open border with criminals and terrorists that were welcomed into (even flown into!) the 50 states, migrant crime, homelessness, chaotic foreign policy that led to wars oversees, moral collapse and a spirit of despair hang like a cloud over much of the country. President Joe Biden’s policies and his personal behavior, affected by a growing dementia obvious to most, even to supportive members of the legacy media, left many wondering who’s in charge. When the Democrat kingmakers ousted him after a catastrophic debate performance and elevated Kamala Harris—the most unpopular vice president in a century—who never won a single delegate before dropping out of her prior campaign for the presidency, who had no accomplishments except tie-breaking votes that led to the high inflation and the disastrous and humiliating pullout from Afghanistan, and failed catastrophically as “border czar,” all but the ruling class were puzzled; what were they thinking?
Kamala Harris could not state what her policies are, or how they would differ from the disastrous policies of Joe Biden. Unable to put two sentences together without a teleprompter (even her supporters in the media used the “word salad” metaphor), she resorted to name-calling against the Republican candidate, calling him Hitler and his supporters Nazis. Trump, meanwhile, who dearly loves this country and didn’t need another term to be prosperous and happy himself, endured lawfare and relentless attacks, even surviving two assassination attempts during his campaign. Taking on every hostile interview and debate, he worked tirelessly to gain support from blacks, Hispanics, women, young and old around the country at hundreds of rallies usually with overflow crowds, several of them exceeding 100,000 eager supporters. He spoke clearly about his very specific plans for what he would do to restore American greatness, international respect and domestic support for the rule of law. And Trump had a track record from his first presidency in 2017 to 2021, in which he had helped every category of Americans do better, and then did it again after Covid-19, bringing back a strong economy after the devastation of the pandemic.
Americans had seen it: four years of prosperity under Trump, and four years of incompetence and failure under Biden and Harris. One would think even scientists could see a clear choice. But what side has Big Science taken? Promoting Harris, and attacking Trump! This shows that Big Science is just as out of touch with the American people as are the coastal elites and Hollywood celebrities who poured a billion dollars into her campaign, only to see her crash and burn early this morning, losing the popular vote, the presidency and probably both houses of Congress. That doesn’t sound very scientific. Don’t they realize that a collapsing economy under Harris socialism with its predictable inflation and high taxes would have been likely to deplete the federal funding they so covet for their science projects? That doesn’t sound like common sense.
The only way to explain Big Science’s persistent leftist progressive stance is a shared ideology with the Democrats. As Darwinians, they see people in populations, not as individuals. Individual man is evolving into State man. For “the common good,” individuals must be nudged and controlled. This is the old Marxist dialectical materialism. Without God or eternal moral standards, it’s up to the elite to determine what’s good for the rest of us. Eat your bugs! You will own nothing and be happy.
‘We need to be ready for a new world’: scientists globally react to Trump election (6 Nov 2024, Nature). With the prospect of a new ‘golden age’ for America ahead, how does Nature bigot Jeff Tollefson react? He’s afraid! Thus begins his fearmongering rant: “Trump’s decisive defeat of Kamala Harris spurs fear about the future of the United States among many researchers.”
Scientists around the world expressed disappointment and alarm as Republican Donald Trump won the final votes needed to secure the US presidency in the early hours of 6 November. Owing to Trump’s anti-science rhetoric and actions during his last term in office, many are now bracing for four years of attacks on scientists inside and outside the government.
“In my long life of 82 years … there has hardly been a day when I felt more sad,” says Fraser Stoddart, a Nobel laureate who left the United States last year and is now chair of chemistry at the University of Hong Kong. “I’ve witnessed something that I feel is extremely bad, not just for the United States, but for all of us in the world.”
Oh come on, Jeff. Be scientific. Let’s see some data. “Many researchers” you say? Looks like you cherry-picked a few to fit your narrative. Have you run a thorough survey of all scientists in America and around the world? What gives you the right to speak for “scientists” as a publicity zealot for Nature, the rag Darwin’s friends started in the 1860s to promote his views?
“I’m speechless,” says Sheila Jasanoff, a social scientist at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Great. Now we don’t have to listen to Sheila.
“We need to be ready for a new world,” says Grazyna Jasienska, a longevity researcher at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. “I am trying to be optimistic, but it is hard to find any positive aspects for global science and public health if Republicans take over.”
Trump has in the past called climate change a hoax and pulled the country out of the Paris climate agreement; he has said he would give Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a political figure who has denied the effectiveness of vaccines, a “big role” in his administration, and he has promised to make it easier to fire specialists such as scientists from the US government who oppose his political agenda.
Terrific. It’s about time. Big Science has gone Woke and radically far left. From his decades as a builder and creator of the popular show The Apprentice, Trump has long experience in telling incompetent people, “You’re fired! Get out of here.” But he attracts top talent like Elon Musk, the greatest living engineer. One would think Nature would warm up to a world leader in electric vehicles and reusable rockets. One would think they would listen to RFK Jr who is alarmed at the corruption in Big Pharma and the rise of obesity and chronic disease in the American population due to poor diet. RFK is not against vaccines! He is against vaccine mandates with no accountability or oversight. And so Jeff adds Big Lie to his Card Stacking article. Hardly scientific.
Elon Musk has gone all in for Trump – here’s what’s at stake for the world’s richest man in the US election (5 Nov 2024, The Conversation). After a string of anti-Trump articles at The Conversation in recent weeks, they printed this slightly more balanced piece yesterday before the election results were known. Thomas Cheney (another Brit) waffles on whether Elon Musk made a good move by supporting Trump. Cheney spends most of his article worrying about the Supreme Court’s overturn of the Chevron Doctrine that allowed regulators to interpret their own regulations, like foxes guarding their own hen houses. Instead of being happy that accountability is now being transferred to judges outside the regulatory state, Cheney seems worried that “experts” in the regulatory class can no longer act with impunity on rules that affect the public and businesses.
One might think that Cheney would welcome Elon Musk’s plans to promote government efficiency, but no; he ends with this quizzical statement, “But the ‘America First’ slogan that Trump has promoted could be an uneasy fit for a billionaire who has frequently said he wants to save humanity.” What? Does Cheney expect that Musk would have any opportunity to save humanity outside of America? What if he were living in North Korea or any other despotic regime? A prosperous America built on free speech and liberty would give all scientists and engineers better opportunities to fulfill their destinies, would it not? People come here for the American Dream.
Jeff; Thomas; for pretending to be scientific and logical, but allying yourselves with the most incompetent, out-of-touch people in Big Science, who have utterly failed the American people, you’re fired. Go home.

Comments
Great summary. Could there be a spiritual component to this?
“Does Cheney expect that Musk would have any opportunity to save humanity outside of America?”
Edward Jenner; Ignaz Semmelweis; Michael Faraday; Fritz Haber….
Nevertheless, all in all a fine article 😉
