Evidence for Easter Shown on Film
Easter is more than eggs,
bunnies and springtime.
But can thinking people believe
that Jesus rose from the dead?
It was called “Easter Break” back when today’s senior citizens were in school. Earlier generations paid respect to the holiest holiday on the calendar back then. “Spring break” has long since become synonymous with travel, parties, booze and licentious behaviors.
That trend may be reversing, however, as more young people take interest in Christianity. Charlie Kirk’s movement, Turning Point USA, was having a strong influence on college students, as Kirk demonstrated his willingness to take on tough questioners in dialog at campus rallies. As an outspoken Christ follower, Charlie did not hesitate to explain why he believed in the resurrection of Christ.
Kirk’s sudden assassination by a rifle-wielding young man in a hate crime during a TPUSA event in Utah last September 10 did little to dampen the movement. If anything, the organization under his widow Erika continues to pack auditoriums today. Disillusioned by years of leftist ideology and the anger or depression it brings, young men and women were intrigued by Charlie Kirk’s strong, positive faith and his courage to answer all comers. Christ followers on campus were emboldened by Charlie’s example. He was not shy or ashamed about his beliefs.
For these and other reasons, many young people have become interested in the life of Jesus and want to know what the evidence behind the Bible. If you are one of those, we invite you to check out the film The Case for Christ by Illustra Media. On their free-videos website TheJohn1010Project.com, episodes from the documentary are presented in a question-and-answer format amenable to honest seekers: presentations that are matter-of-fact, non-pushy, and reasonable. The interviewers feature prominent Bible scholars, historians and philosophers who appeal to reason and evidence, introduced by former atheist Lee Strobel. Here are some episodes we recommend:
While historical facts are important when choosing a worldview, people need a belief system that gives meaning and purpose in life, too: a faith that provides comfort in times of suffering. That’s why it’s helpful to look at what happened to the disciples of Jesus after they saw him alive after having watched him crucified and buried. What happened to them after that?
We divide history at a point in time: BC and AD, because of Jesus Christ. No person in history has had as profound an influence on human hearts as Jesus. In this 3-minute video, consider how that could be— unless he was who he claimed to be: the Son of God, bringing salvation and eternal life to anyone who trusts in him.
We wish all readers and visitors to Creation-Evolution Headlines a joyous, richly-meaningful Easter.
Comment: people deemed “religious” by secular society are often called “people of faith.” In actuality, everyone is a person of faith. The question should be: in what do you put your trust? Instead of trusting the words of philosophers or gurus who make up thoughts out of their own minds, or the claims of scientists whose views are constantly changing, think about how Biblical faith is rooted in historical events with verifiable names of people, cities, and nations that are verifiable by historians. No other “holy book” comes close. We are all people of faith. Choose your faith wisely.
