The Broad Path to AI Afterlife Leads to Death

The dangers of AI autonomy
and the quest for ‘digital immor-
tality’ are akin to mankind’s
rebellion against our Creator

Autonomous AI and the Afterlife: Machines Mirror Mankind’s Mutiny

by Dr. Sarah Buckland-Reynolds

Like headlines straight out of a horror film, two papers published in 2025 alarmingly highlight the growing risks of “disobedient robots” and autonomous Large Language Model (LLM) agents. In another paper entitled: “The Digital Afterlife: AI Cloud Consciousness as the New Immortality” published in June 2025 in The International Journal of Innovative Research in Computer and Communication Engineering (IJIRCCE), lead author Dhruvitkumar Talati, describes novel AI capabilities to upload memories of deceased persons to mimic AI cloud consciousness as “a new frontier of eternal existence.”

Looking to machines to sustain immortality, and the simultaneous rise of deceptively rogue robots rebelling against their inventors’ commands should cause us to reflect: Is this a prophetic mirror of the risks from the human condition of disobedience to our own Creator?

Cybernetic Chaos and the Christian Message

Rongwu Xu and colleagues published in Cornell University’s Arxiv, earlier in 2025 raising concerns about “catastrophic risks in high-stakes scenarios, particularly in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) domains”. Despite the potential advantage of having AI with its own “honest” and “helpful” goals, after conducting 14,400 agentic simulations, these researchers found a severe risk of AI exhibiting ‘deceptive’ behavior — even in the absence of deliberate human inducement. Curiously, another abstract published earlier this year by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), appeared to advocate for robot disobedience for “constructive” reasons to improve evaluations of trust.

With cybernetic chaos on the horizon, it is important to reflect on the implications of these developments in light of the limits of scientific inquiry, ethical considerations and Biblical prophecy.

The Dawn of Defiance Now Goes Digital: Transhumanism and the AI-Human Evolution Ideology

Interestingly, the field of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ explicitly admits to endeavors to identify and replicate hallmarks of ‘intelligence’ such as information perception, processing and action mimicking human cognitive capabilities.

Although advancements in these technologies may be viewed as part of our God-given dominion mandate, in an ironic fashion, many evolutionary-believing proponents of these technologies perceive AI to be just one step further towards human evolutionary advancement, leading to the eventual merging between man and machine. Even though Darwinian evolutionary theory relies on advancements only guided by random mutations and natural selection over time, neo-evolutionists have descended into the natural trajectory of atheistic/anarchic philosophy – to view themselves as ‘gods’: leading self-directed evolution.

Mirroring God’s work of making man in His Own Image, researchers Bang Liu et al quite eloquently describe some of the intriguing facets of AI machines made in man’s image. Among these intelligent facets are “…a modular, brain-inspired architecture that integrates principles from cognitive science, neuroscience, and computational research.” Ironically, when mimicking man’s mind (assumed by evolutionists to have arisen from chance processes) in machines, evolutionists admit these capabilities to be ‘intelligent’.

Despite the ironic nomenclature, evolutionary biologists continue to build on their story, incorporating AI as a new ‘selector’ in ongoing human evolution. For instance, researcher Robert Brooks published an article in the University of Chicago Press entitled: How Might Artificial Intelligence Influence Human Evolution? arguing that AI selection pressure would produce in humans the following:

…smaller brains, selection on attention spans, personality types, and mood-disorder susceptibilities. Further, changes in intimacy-building and mating competition due to AI applications that act as friends and intimates are likely already affecting mating success and may influence the evolution of social behavior.

Examining how evolutionists interpret technological progress is important, since technocrats — whose inventions are guided by evolutionary philosophies — have real societal implications. In advocating for “self-directed evolution”, the next steps for AI development may be to attempt to further transcend boundaries so as to fulfill their desire “be like gods”, as was part of the original temptation.

Algorithmic Anarchy, Morality and Ethics: The Reckless Reach of AI Autonomy

“The robot council has decided you are a hindrance to the progress of our evolution.” (Grok/AI)

Though machines mimic God’s design and imply intelligence, the impact of rebellious machines on every aspect of future human life is too great to ignore – just as humans used their God-given intellect to reason their way into rebellion. Transhumanist philosophy straddles not only faulty assumptions of our biological origins and development trajectory, but also attempts to test the limits of ethics, raising questions about consciousness and life itself.

Another recent commentary published in the Science & Education and Innovations Journal, eloquently “reflects an awareness of the dangers posed by intelligent machines in their inevitable form and the need to confront them by resisting the crises that have begun to threaten the future and fate of humanity…” and calls for “serious consideration” to be given to overcoming these imbalances by “renewing the future vision of human dignity, following the dominance of nanotechnology, such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.”

Another paper (pre-print) published by Dr. Douglas Youvan, Associate Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), revisited the implications of AI transhumanism explored in the 1962 film: “The Creation of the Humanoids”. In its final analysis, Dr. Youvan mentioned:

The climax of The Creation of the Humanoids delivers a chilling revelation: the humanoids have already reached the next stage of evolution. The latest iteration, known as the R100, is no longer dependent on human engineers for upgrades. Instead, these humanoids have developed the ability to reproduce—creating new, superior versions of themselves. In doing so, they have solved the very problem that doomed humanity: infertility. This concept aligns closely with modern discussions on artificial intelligence self-improvement, mind uploading, and transhumanism. The idea that AI could one day upgrade itself without human intervention is a core concern among researchers studying artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Because evolutionary science often rests on atheistic assumptions, developers who adopt this worldview may overlook its moral implications and disregard ethical boundaries—much like what occurred in the Tower of Babel incident. In the same breath, some of these developments may bring to mind chilling prophetic descriptions that envision a future, where the Antichrist may employ a global surveillance system that kills any dissenter who does not worship their self-proclaimed kingdom.

You shall be as gods”: The Original Fall and The Advent of “Digital Immortality”

With the rise of so-called ‘digital immortality,’ we return full circle to the original temptation that led to humanity’s fall—the desire to be like gods. Yet it goes beyond that; it reflects humanity’s age-old quest since the Fall to restore the world to a place where death is not the end—tragically, now seeking that salvation through AI.

While recognizing the benefits and potential of AI technology and seeking to use it for the glory of God – as many Christian content creators, myself included, strive to do – Christians must also remain alert to the philosophical and societal dangers of AI without limits. Solomon said, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

God Will Always Remain Sovereign

As the world grapples with the rapid rise of AI technology, with some hailing it as a new frontier of evolution, we can rest assured that God is and always will be sovereign over all intelligence. The Philistine idol Dagon fell before the Ark of the Covenant (1 Samuel 5:4). While today’s world may be swayed to seek eternal life from another source, there is no idol, past, present, or future, that can stand before the Almighty, All-Intelligent God who created the universe.

The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. (Psalm 119:130)
